2015 Team Iowa PlansWe are happy to announce that the 6th Grade (Mike Thomas), 7th Grade (Tait Hines), and 8th Grade (Jason Katcher) Head Coaches have discussed with their respective coaches their National Championship tournament options and have determined that all Team Iowa teams, including a NEW 5th Grade team, will be playing in the NUC Rising Stars National Championship Tourney. National Underclassmen will be very similar to the FBU tournaments we have played in past years, but the tournament will we held over two weekends with the FINAL 8 teams in each age division meeting in Las Vegas to play for a National Championship! As more details are finalized we will make sure to share them with each of our teams! More information can be located at the NUC Rising Stars website. Go Team Iowa!
8th Grade Team Iowa (**NOTICE**)Team Iowa,
It is hard to believe that March is almost half over and Spring Break is here! I hope everyone has been enjoying the weather the past few days and maybe the excitement for the upcoming football season is starting to build…J…I know it is for me!! I wanted to send a quick message to bring everyone up to speed regarding our plans for the upcoming Team Iowa season! As some of you may have heard Mike Thomas and FBU have parted ways which leaves a few things in flux regarding the FBU tournament. I do expect FBU to reach out to me to discuss their plans for the 2015 tournament, combines, and camps. In the meantime, since Team Iowa has always been a separate entity in relationship to FBU, the 8th Grade Coaches and I are looking at other National Tournament possibilities to ensure we have options that will not break the bank and allow our players a forum on the National stage! I will keep everyone apprised of activities as we they get closer to being solidified, but one thing is for certain…we will make National Championship run as 8th Grade Team Iowa in 2015! Stay tuned for more details and Go Team Iowa!!
8th Grade Team Iowa Head Coach
Team Iowa/2015/Changes...Team Iowa Parents/Players 2014,
I wanted to thank all of you for your support to Team Iowa over the years. I am proud of what we have built in just 3 quick years. The relantionships our player and families have formed over these years will last a lifetime. I am very fortunate to be surrouned by great coaches that understand the philosophies of how to build and foster a great state program.
You may have received a email recently stating that I have parted ways with FBU. I wanted to let all of you know why I decided to make this decision. As many of you know that platform that FBU had built for a national tournament was a great one. Fbu contacted me 3 years ago because of my experience in hosting and running tournmaments of my own(WFC) here in Iowa. The idea of taking our state and placing it in a national tournament was very exciting to me in the beginning. Over these 3 years I have consistently offered my ideas and structure of what I do as a tourney director to FBU to help them fix the little things that I felt was needed to make it more succesful. Unfortunately they fell on deaf ears. Even though we enjoyed the competition that the FBU tourney had to offer, I was constantly unhappy with the return that FBU offered for the investment. I was hoping that things would get better as they fine tuned over the years, but after finishing up last year in another Final 4, I knew it had not. The increasing cost of team fees, lask of recognition through team awards, and the decline of travel stipens had actually gone in the wrong direction. The actual organization/logistics of last years final 4 was even worse. After taking this all into consideration I felt that I could no longer support where the FBUNC was going and decided to break ties with FBU and my position with them.
I have spoken with both Coach Katcher and Coach Hines and we all have agreed that we would like to keep Team Iowa going in the direction of its proven success. Coach Katcher and Hines will be reaching out to you to discuss your options for this fall very soon. Each existing team has their own right to go in whatever NC direction they want this fall. We will be engaging in the normal process of Team Iowa try-outs etc this fall and I plan to head up Team Iowa 6th Grade myself. I have already contacted another great National Tournament company that would like to bring a 8 state regional to Valley Stadium the middle of November, with the finals to be held in Las Vegas the first week in December. More on that will come on Team Iowa's website very soon. I will be placing Team Iowa 6th Grade in that Tournament as I know the Toruney Director very well and know that the cost vs the return will be 1/3 of what we have been investing.
One thing that Coach Katcher, Caoch Hines and myself all agree on is that TEAM IOWA stands alone and together we will make our own decisions on what tournamments in which we participate.
To my 2014 8th grade team that gave me some much pride in the last 3 years....Thank you and I will be following all of you through your high school careers.
To all returning teams, I wish you your continued success that you have already started and look forward to the new incoming 6th grade Team Iowa.
Please look for updates on Team Iowa on the website www.teamiowafootball.com in the next couple of weeks.
